Are you overwhelmed thinking you’re not doing enough and your kids are not learning what they need to? I have something important for you to hear. You are ENOUGH and your kids are too.
We are uniquely ourselves. This is on of the beauties of being human. Our unique selves learn and absorb information differently. Cookie cutter methods do not work for all, only for the cookies. Homeschooling is about finding a way to best (because perfection is not real) meet your student’s learning goals and desires. Remember to try and separate your goals from your learners goals. I guarantee you they are not the same and this is actually wonderful. Let us be honest, kids should not have the same goals as adults. All this I know is overwhelming. You could join Knowledge Seekers Homeschool Collective my wonderful learning opportunity in NE Portland. But maybe you don’t even live in Portland, or your kid is currently in public school and all you want is a little information to help you right now!

Thing to remember and not to forget:
*Parents (and caregivers) are doing the BEST they can in the moments they are given.
*Kids are doing the BEST they can in the moments they are given.
*Kids are kids not mini adults!
*Play in the purest form provides so much learning and most importantly joy.
*Kids are more invested in their learning when they are given a choice, and have a voice, no matter how big or small. I’m guessing you as an adult are too.
*A little goes a long way. 15 fun minutes spent doing Lego math will yield more joy and thus learning opportunities than 30-45 minutes filling out worksheets.
For many students it is a challenge to just make it through the academic day holding it all together let alone absorbing all of the information that they “needed to learn”. This goes for homeschoolers also. When I was first attending community collage it took me weeks to realize why I was so exhausted after my classes. Academics are tiring, like in the bones exhausting.
Kids like us need time to just BE! be lazy, be crazy, be calm, be creative, to be THEM without being told what to do and when to do it. To reboot. This looks differently to us all. For me, it is spending time with friends to connect, talk and support them in the ways that I can. For my kids, it is reading on the heater vent but it is also being active, scooting, running, playing. Taking this time is important so that we can do all the rest.
