Podcasts and Audio Books.

To be honest I have not picked up a book in a long time to sit and read. But I have listened to 100’s and hours of podcasts and audiobooks. This all started within a year of having my twins and giving in and getting a smartphone. There is a plethora of knowledge out there on ALL the subjects you can wish for. Here you will find two podcasts I was featured in recently. They are all about homeschool and the things that are important to me. My own homeschool journey started at a young age and my childhood informed much of why I started a program where children have a voice.

At KSHC Julia our lovely teacher, has a passion for language arts. Although it is not one of the top three areas we focus on at KSHC, STEM, the Arts and Social Studies are our big three. Julia expertly effuses language art into ALL that she does in a fun way. There are plenty of books to look at, read and even listen to during lessons. The students enjoy when Julia reads to them or puts on a podcast during down time or art making.

I was recently on two podcasts related to homeschooling. It was a wonderful opportunity to articulate what is important to me on this journey. I will share some of the fun podcasts my kids enjoy as well as some for parents. Plenty of these we enjoy together.

Podcasts:

Kids (age 5-any): Wow in the World, Who’s Amazing Life, Who when Wow, Wow on the Weekend, Story Pirates, Circle Round, By Kids for Kids, and Once Upon a Beat, Cash Kid.

Adult: 99% Invisible, Radio Lab, Snap Judgment, Death Sex and Money, My Unsung Hero, The Moth, The History Chicks…..

Homeschool related: Are you ready for raw VULNERABILITY ? Here is me talking about why homeschooling is so important to me.

The OpenED podcast: Ela Richmond sits down with Tess Scholl, mother and founder of Knowledge Seekers, a student-led learning program based in Portland, Oregon. Tess shares her journey from being home educated in Australia during a time WHEN homeschooling was illegal to now creating a revolutionary educational program that puts children and families first. Discover how giving children a voice in their education can foster confidence, creativity, and joy in learning.

I really enjoyed talking to Ela about my journey of homeschooling, the roots of it and also where I am now. I got emotional right off the bat about the topic of giving kids a voice. This is a very important topic for me. So if you want to be inspired and hear me trying and failing to keep my S&%$ together I highly recommend a listen. https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/from-illegal-homeschooler-to-microschool-founder-tess/id1760216903?i=1000693649726

The ultimate homeschool community podcast: I had the pleasure of chatting with Tiffany about homeschooling and the Micro School movement. Tess Scholl: Homeschool mom of two boys who has a passion for helping other families on their homeschooling journey. She started a microschool complete with a project-based learning teacher. Students have the ability to enjoy small class sizes while also taking an active role in creating the education that they not only want but need.
