Since February we have had a lot of new subscribers so I wanted to introduce myself again.
How should I go about capturing who I am? There are lots an angles I could go with. I could list several fun facts about myself: I have twin boys that are 10 years old, and I myself have a twin sister. I highly dislike getting only one foot wet (I also have to get the other one wet). I am originally from Australia and survived living there for 20 years without any dangerous animals attacking (not hard to do actually). And I have 3 cats… one weighing over 23 lbs.
I could also tell you how I think others might describe me: A kind and giving friend. Someone that gives a lot of themselves to others.
But, what I want to share is who I think I have become. How I see myself. This comes from a lifetime… or at least my 43 years of life. What one must value first is one’s inherent worth as a person. What others think of us is not always important… but I can guarantee how you feel about yourself is! I have become a person that knows she has a valued place in this world. One that wants to be in a community with others and share her passion for lifting others up. Not much in my life is of value to me if I can not share it with others that I love.
I hold a deep need for genuine connection with others and a desire for supporting others through hard times. My idea of a perfect day is talking, listening, and developing strong bonds. It is in my bones to help people see their worth in this world and help them believe in themselves. It is no shocker that I got a degree in social work and have spent most of my time supporting families and their kids.
I have had more jobs then I can count on both hands. The most resent being postpartum support for families as they welcome their baby(s) home. After homeschooling my kids for 4 years I started Knowledge Seekers Homeschool Collective. This is yet another way that I get to support individuals and their journey to be who they will become.
Kids are incredible. When we give them honest respect by truly listening and proof that they are valued we show them that they have an important place in this world. I have created an environment at KSHC and continue to foster that environment with the help of our teacher Julia where students have a voice. It’s a place where we practice open communication and listen to what the students have to say. We are not giving kids an entitlement… more we are giving them what we expect they will have when they are adults… A VOICE! We can not expect future young adults that will be graduating school to forge a path in life if we have not previously told and shown them they are worthy of having a path!
That is me! That is who I have become. I had parents that showed me I have a voice and it is worthy of being heard in this world. I want others to know they are enough.

Photography By Julie: Hi, I’m Julie! I’m the photographer who shows up with a camera in one hand and a squeaky toy in the other. I work with schools, small biz owners, and families to make photo sessions feel fun, easy, and real. This is my 17th year as a photographer, and I still catch myself smiling behind the camera, right along with my subjects. I especially love photographing kids because I get to be just as goofy and playful as they are. https://juliethephotographer.com/
