I am forever grateful for the friends and family in my life who make this life wonderful.
I thrive on connecting with others—my life is richer for it.
When we take a moment to look around, we hopefully see family and friends who are there for us. And if we don’t, we can grow a support system.
I want to talk about asking for help.
“Vulnerability is not winning or losing; it’s having the courage to show up and be seen when we have no control over the outcome.”
— Brené Brown
Over the years, I’ve been fortunate to lean on my community for so many things. I’ve had friends help me with legal advice, design logos, give massages, offer tax help and financial advice, teach my kids about bones and muscles, edit my websites, babysit my kids—and so much more.
And I give back to my communities in the ways I can: free babysitting, fun face painting, cooking meals, and being an emotional support.
We can also reach out to our non-homeschooling friends and family while we homeschool. I often feel like “I’m the only one of my friends who homeschools, and it’s isolating.” I do have a couple of friends who homeschool, and we definitely stick together. Slowly, my support system grew. Remember all of our friends want us to be successful.
I encourage you to reach out, build community, and ask for help. There might be a neighbor itching to teach your kiddo guitar, math, reading—or help you learn QuickBooks. Maybe they’re a former baseball star. Be brave and reach out; the world is still a wonderful place.

Sea Creatures and More: I offer three self-paced classes. Two of them are on deep sea creatures and one is on cephalopods. These classes are self-paced and consist of 9 modules. Each module contains a video that ranges 45 minutes – 1 hour, worksheets (crossword puzzles, search a word), a themed mini writing assignment, and a quiz. Each module covers 8 animals (for deep sea creatures classes) to 12 animals (for cephalopods class). It includes a certificate of completion you can fill out for your student. You have access to all the information (video, slides, links for animal video playlists) for a year. The cost is $90USD per class, which works out to $10 a module.
For those families who are seeing this on the Knowledge Seekers Homeschool Collective newsletter, it has been arranged for you to get $10 off of these classes if you book on Outschool (the discount is only available on Outschool, no other platform) and use code: MCCLEKNOWLEDGESEEKERS10

Photography by Julie: Hi, I’m Julie! I’m the photographer who shows up with a camera in one hand and a squeaky toy in the other. I work with schools, small biz owners, and families to make photo sessions feel fun, easy, and real. This is my 17th year as a photographer, and I still catch myself smiling behind the camera, right along with my subjects. I especially love photographing kids because I get to be just as goofy and playful as they are. https://juliethephotographer.com/
