Let us bust a few homeschooling myths.
BUT QUICK- check out our rock painting event tomorrow! Look a little further in this email.
Myth 1: Homeschooled kids don’t get socialized.
Truth:
Homeschooled kids often have more diverse social interactions than their traditionally schooled peers. They connect often with people of all ages through co-ops, classes, and community events.
Myth 2: Homeschooling takes all day, every day.
Truth:
Most homeschoolers finish their work in 2–4 hours a day for older grades. Did you know that for grades K and 1st just 15-20 minute is all you need. This leaves plenty of time for play, exploration, field trips, and deep dives into passions projects.
Myth 3: You have to be a certified teacher to homeschool.
Truth:
In Oregon, you do not need to be a certified teacher to homeschool. Parents and guardians can legally teach their children, and there are tons of resources, and programs to guide the journey. You know your child best.
Myth 4: Homeschoolers won’t be ready for college or careers.
Truth:
Colleges actively recruit homeschoolers for their independence, creativity, and strong academic preparation. Many homeschoolers go on to excel in college, entrepreneurship, trades, and creative fields. I personally know homeschoolers thriving in upper education.

Sea Creatures and More: I offer three self-paced classes. Two of them are on deep sea creatures and one is on cephalopods. These classes are self-paced and consist of 9 modules. Each module contains a video that ranges 45 minutes – 1 hour, worksheets (crossword puzzles, search a word), a themed mini writing assignment, and a quiz. Each module covers 8 animals (for deep sea creatures classes) to 12 animals (for cephalopods class). It includes a certificate of completion you can fill out for your student. You have access to all the information (video, slides, links for animal video playlists) for a year. The cost is $90USD per class, which works out to $10 a module.
