I know that we do what we do for our kids. But we also need to honor ourselves.
We are here, and we matter, and we are enough. Not that we don’t have to grow over time, but we need to stop being so hard on ourselves.
When I became a mum, I found myself replacing the word “I” with “we.” EVERYTHING became a we. Seriously, my sentences didn’t even make grammatical sense. Even when I was going shopping alone, I would say we.
At some point, we have to give ourselves the space to morph into other versions of ourselves beyond our kids and family. To truly see ourselves as enough.
I am not talking about “self-care,” getting your nails done, or getting that $7 coffee (although, also do that). I’m talking about loving who we are, and who we can and will be. Giving ourselves grace in the moments when we suck at parenting, knowing that next time we will have 1% more patience.
I’m talking about taking up space. Giving ourselves permission to ask for what we need, knowing that we are stronger for the asking.
When we do this, we teach our kids how to honor themselves.
